NOTE: Please refer to the Terms and Conditions for a definitive guide to the conditions of use for all of our products and services. The following FAQ is for guidance only.

Q. How can I book a class, workshop or training at Rebel Monk?

The best way to book in at Rebel Monk is to download the Rebel Monk app – click here for iOS App Store and click here for Android Google Play. This app allows you to pay for a class package or membership and then book classes that still have spaces and cancel your class (where possible, see below). You can also pay for events and book and pay for one-to-one classes using the app.

If you do not have access to our app, you can access our booking system through the internet via our MindBody Online page.

Q. How can I cancel my booking?

It is only possible to cancel a booking within a certain period before that class or event. For group classes you must cancel at least four hours before that class begins or you will forfeit one class from your package or incur a $15 fee if you have a membership package. If you do not cancel your class and do not attend in person to check in, you will forfeit one class from your package or incur a $20 fee if you have a membership package.

Please read our Terms and Conditions for full details of cancellation periods for our services and our refunds policy before booking.

Q. Can I drop in and pay cash at reception?

No, we do not accept cash payments. All classes must be booked via the MindBody booking system, either online through our Rebel Monk app. You can also come in early and book directly with our teachers but if the class is full you’ll have wasted your time so best to download the app (see above) and book before coming. Please note that online booking closes five minutes before the start time of each class.

Our Studio

Q. What facilities do you have at your studios?

Our studios are fully equipped so that you don’t need to bring anything with you except your clothes. The studios themselves have a yoga mat for each student, and appropriate yoga props such as blocks, straps, blankets and towels. The studios are comfortably warm so you shouldn’t need extra clothing during classes.

Our teachers can help you with any yoga-related questions or issues, and our changing rooms offer spa-quality facilities having lockers (with sockets for charging mobile phones), showers, towels, body wash, shampoo and conditioner for your use.

We have three types of complimentary water on tap (cold, ambient and sparkling) and during opening hours, our Timber and Greens cafe offers food and beverages from our extensive range before or after your class.

You can access our free hi-speed guest wi-fi anywhere outside of the studio, and if you need a working space before or after class then please see the Happiness Team to arrange this within our CreativeCubes collaborative working space

Some of our events are run in partnership with MicDrop, our five star events team, and if you are interested in hiring their space please speak to the Happiness Team for further details.

Coming to Class

Q. What kind of Yoga do you teach?

Our teachers have a variety of inspirations and have learned their skills from a broad range of Yoga sources (and other modalities). This is represented in the authentically individual nature of the classes they teach, so you’ll always expect some difference from class to class, even in the same class type. In general, our classes centre around breath-focused movement practices (asana), awareness-focused breathing practices (pranayama) and a variety of effective mind-training (meditation) practices that will improve your physical, energetic and mental-emotional health.

Instead of following the limited notion of class “styles”, each of our classes follows a particular pace and rhythm that fits in with the ancient Yoga model of the Five Elements –  Earth, Water, Fire, Air and Space. Each Element represents a broader range of practices than one single style, allowing teachers a greater range of practices to offer you in enhancing your wellbeing. But you’ll soon see that the energy of each class type is the same, no matter who is teaching, and that will let you know when booking exactly what effect that class will have on your body, breath and mind.

You can find a detailed description of our Five Elements classes here .

Q. How early should I come to class?

Please arrive about 15-20 minutes before class to check in and get settled in the studio. It is important to be in the right frame of mind for Yoga practice, so we ask you to plan your journey so that you don’t have to rush into class last minute.

Check-in closes 2 minutes before the class begins, to let our teachers walk from check-in to the studio and start the class on time. If you are not checked in at this point, you will not be able to join the class and will incur an Absent  fee (losing one class from your class package or incurring a $20 fee if you have an unlimited membership). You then need to be in the studio before the teacher closes the door at the scheduled start time or you will not be able to join the class.

Q. Is it okay to come in if I arrive late?

No, it is not possible to join the class if you are not inside the class when the studio doors are closed for the start of the class. We do this in order to prevent disruption of the class, so teachers and staff are under strict instructions to allow no exceptions.

Q. I need to leave class early, is that ok?

No, again we owe it to our customers to prevent any possible disruption of the class during its scheduled period, so you should not book a class where you have a need to leave before it finishes. We consider this a very important feature of a yoga class, especially in the relaxation period at the end of class, so teachers and staff are under strict instructions to allow no exceptions.

Q. I’ve never done Yoga before. What kind of Classes do you recommend?

Our first recommendation is to begin with our Yoga 101 class on a Wednesday night. This class will be attended by beginners and teachers will take more time to explain the ins and outs of yoga practice rather than just instructing you on how to do them.

If you can’t make that class, we advise you start with a Water Flow or Space Out class to gauge your fitness level and suitability for other classes. Fire Power classes are intense in terms of fitness needed, and Earth Chill classes can be challenging too due to the long time spent in some positions, so once you’ve done a few Water or Space classes perhaps chat with your teacher before trying one of the others. Air Time classes are best left for when you have a few months of solid experience and are ready for the challenge of working towards inversions and arm balances.

Q. What should I wear?

Wear clothes that you feel comfortable to move around in for fitness activities. Many people prefer tight fitting clothing that wicks away perspiration. You will not need shoes as all classes are practised barefoot.

Q. Do you do Hot Yoga?

Our rooms are kept comfortably warm at all times, but we do not superheat the classes as in hot yoga studios. The heat that is most beneficial in yoga practice is that which you generate from inside.

Q What do I need to bring with me?

You just need to bring yourself, appropriate clothing, a big smile and an open heart. You may also wish to bring a water bottle (not glass) although we don’t recommend drinking water during classes. You can also bring your own mat to lay over the top of ours if you prefer, but this is not necessary as we provide Lululemon mats for all classes.

Q. Is there anything I can’t bring with me?

You should not take anything into the studio with you except a water bottle and mat (both optional). Teachers are under strict instructions not to allow bags, jackets, shoes, mobile devices (phones, tablets, watches or anything else capable of connecting to wifi or mobile internet), open cups and bottles and glass water bottles into the studio so please do not ask. We provide mats and other yoga props appropriate to the practice, so you should not need any other items.

We provide lockers in the changing rooms and storage cubes by the studio door, so please store all other items there during your class. Please note that you cannot leave items in lockers beyond class times and any items left behind between classes or overnight will be removed.

Q. How often should I practice Yoga?

It is ideal to practice 3-4 times a week for maximum effect, but you will gain some positive benefit from coming to class even once or twice a week.

Q. Can I practice with my injury or medical condition?

If you have an existing injury or medical condition that may affect your ability to fully and safely participate in our classes, you must see your medical practitioner and get their permission to attend classes. You should inform your teacher of any current issues and they may instruct you to avoid or adapt certain practices, or may insist that you do not take part in the class if they feel that there is a possibility of negatively affecting your wellbeing. If you do take part in any of our classes, you always assume the risk of doing so yourself.

Q. Can I practice during pregnancy?

Our classes are not specific pre-natal yoga classes, and we recommend that during pregnancy it is best for you to find such a class, especially if you have not attended yoga classes before.

If you are an experienced practitioner then it may be possible for you to attend some of our classes if you have your doctor’s permission to do so. You will not be able to attend our Fire Power or Air Time classes during this period, but for all other classes you must inform our teachers of your current situation, your doctor’s consent and any other issues that are current for you.

They will advise you on practices that you should avoid or adapt, and may also insist that you do not take part in the class if they feel that there is a possibility of negatively affecting your wellbeing. If you do take part in any of our classes during pregnancy, you always assume the risk of doing so yourself.

Q. How soon can I practice after childbirth?

As a general guideline you should wait at least six weeks after childbirth before doing any form of exercise including yoga. In any case, before attending our classes after childbirth you will need to get your doctor’s permission and you should begin with our Water Flow classes to help your body recover.

You must inform our teachers of the details of your current situation, your doctor’s consent and any other issues that are current for you. They will advise you on practices that you should avoid or adapt, and may also insist that you do not take part in the class if they feel that there is a possibility of negatively affecting your wellbeing.
